Haddam, Ct. - 07/30/2018 - Raising their voices for the last line of the pledge of allegiance, "with liberty and justice for all," Haddam selectman Larry Maggi (left) and attendees to the town's board meeting, stand as Haddam Selectwoman Melissa Schlag kneels. Schlag knelt two weeks prior, at the town's July 19 meeting, saying she was protesting Donald Trump in "extreme sorrow." Since Trump's election, Republican Maura Wallin of Haddam and Democrat Eric Couture of Killingworth, two members of the Region 17 school board, have been kneeling during the pledge at their board’s meetings.
